Reasonable People

by Paul Ilechko

Reasonable people can seek to    can splinter
can break like bone in water      stained red      or
blue     or purple     burned and branded

reasonable people can smooth or soften      can
exploit the map      rebuild the psychoma      the
flowering of gratitude

reasonable people survive aridity      under close
inspection      an insect infestation      a lack of
preparation

a maze between the blankness of lines

reasonable people inside their caves      each one
an interval described in octaves      the sky on fire
as grasslands vanish into graduation

reasonable people exposed to river      their veins
as tributary      an internal heat source      a drift
a prism      fog lamps visible through the mist

    saltwater erosion of metals

reasonable people invest in salvage

reasonable people take rope into the tower

reasonable people never sleep in darkness

  days of skull and cancer

reasonable people reject the blackness of rhyme

reasonable people die their own deaths

    a world of property values

everything degrades to reasonable.
